Vmbo students on ‘Bliksemstage’ with AYOP members
On the morning of Friday, November 7th, over 100 vmbo students joined AYOP members for the “Bliksemstage” project. Initiated by JINC, this project was organized as part of Equal Opportunities Week.
The students from Velsen Technical College visited our members and assembled wind turbines, tried on survival suites, learned how a forklift works, designed a drone, and much more. Together, we showed the young people the offshore energy sector and gave them a real-life experience during a two-hour internship. Many thanks to the participating AYOP members: Breman Offshore, Den Helder Airport, FMTC Safety, Føn Energy Services, Hydrauvision, Lubbers Logistics Group, Oceanwide, Roodenberg Staalkabels, Z-Bridge, Zeehaven IJmuiden N.V. and partners METIP and KNRM. Thanks also to the organizers and, of course, to the students who behaved exemplarily.
It makes us proud to see how the members convey their enthusiasm for their work to these students. Because, as JINC emphasizes: “It’s so important that a student is truly seen and, in this way, comes into contact with things they wouldn’t normally do.” Alderman Gideon Nijemanting of the Municipality of Velsen was also present and expressed his gratitude to the companies that invest time in education.
Our sector will continue to require a wide variety of professions and skills in the future. Therefore, it’s crucial to introduce young target groups to the offshore energy sector. The Bliksemstage is a win-win: the members can showcase what they have to offer, and the young people learn about new career opportunities. JINC’s Bliksemstage was a pilot program and has left us wanting more. Our ambition for next year is to organize an AYOP Bliksemstage Day throughout North Holland!
