Harry Klamer named new treasurer of AYOP

AYOP has a new treasurer. Harry Klamer, Finance Manager at DEME Environmental, is taking over the role from Eric Verdú. This is a great next step for Harry, who has been involved with the AYOP network for about eight years. “I think it is wonderful to be able to contribute to this region from within the board.”

Harry has been working at DEME Environmental for about ten years now. In his role, he focuses on finance, sustainability reporting, and improvement projects, among other things. His work regularly takes him to Belgium, but his base is in North Holland. DEME has a strong commitment to the region, including from Amsterdam and Den Helder.

Harry himself has also developed a strong connection to North Holland. He is originally from Groningen but settled in North Holland almost 25 years ago. “I have lost my heart a little to this region. When you see the ports we have here and the opportunities that lie at sea, I think that as a region, we have a lot to gain in the coming years.”

Short lines of communication in the region

This is exactly where Harry sees an important role for AYOP. Developments at sea offer opportunities, but also require cooperation between companies, ports, and other involved parties.

“Projects are planned years in advance. It is therefore important to discuss this with each other in time and for the region to be prepared for it. A network organization like AYOP helps to quickly bring the right people together and establish short lines of communication.”

Harry has been regularly attending AYOP activities for about eight years. He is attracted not only by the substantive collaboration but also by the informal nature of the network. “It is simply a fun club. You can make progress together on a substantive level, but also have a drink together afterwards.”

From committed member to board member

When a new treasurer was being sought within AYOP, Harry did not have to think long. “When I first joined AYOP about eight years ago, Eric was elected treasurer. Now that he is stepping down, this role has become available. I thought: why not?” This also aligns with AYOP’s values as a network organization: not only the members, but also the board members are firmly rooted in practice. Harry brings his financial knowledge and sector experience from his daily work at DEME Environmental to the board.

Harry has now formally started as treasurer. In this role, he aims not only to apply his financial expertise but also to contribute to further collaboration within the region.

“A lot is going to happen in the coming years. It is precisely then that it is important to identify opportunities together and to be able to find each other easily. It is great to contribute to this from the AYOP board.”

AYOP thanks Eric Verdú for his dedication as treasurer and extends a warm welcome to Harry to the board.
