At the Offshore Energy Exhibition 2025, we welcomed a new member: LYGG! This Finnish company is redefining regional air mobility with direct business flight routes for offshore companies. Eelco van Wijk is responsible for LYGG in the Benelux. We spoke with him at the exhibition about how LYGG helps companies save time, reduce costs, and lower emissions.

Efficient flying within the North Sea region

LYGG’s focus is on the North Sea region, specifically the offshore sector. Eelco explains: “Offshore ports are often far from major airports, making it time-consuming to move personnel via commercial flights. If you want to fly personnel from Esbjerg to Den Helder, it can easily take eight hours via Billund or Copenhagen and Schiphol. We offer a direct flight, drastically reducing travel time. Thanks to smaller STOL (Short Take Off and Landing) aircraft, we can also operate quickly: within 15 minutes, everyone is on board and we can take off. This flying method saves time, reduces costs—think hotels and catering, for example—and reduces emissions through shorter, direct flights.”

Customized solutions for large and small

LYGG bundles customer requests to create a route that connects the offshore locations of Haugesund, Stavanger, Esbjerg, Groningen, Emden, Den Helder, Ostend, Norwich, Humberside, and Aberdeen. The schedule is tailored to local business travel needs. LYGG operates demand-driven: “We tailor our offering to our clients’ needs and are flexible regarding days, times, and special requests,” says Eelco. “Does a company have a crew of 25 that needs to fly from Norwich to Aberdeen every Wednesday morning for six weeks? Then we adjust the aircraft and times accordingly.” Specific requirements are also possible. “At the trade fair, I spoke with a company whose staff carries 40 kilos of luggage per person. We adjust the aircraft accordingly.” LYGG collaborates with various operators. “This allows us to provide customized solutions, regardless of the client’s size.”

Eelco emphasizes that not only large companies can use LYGG’s services: “I sometimes talk to people who think: I only have a small need; you can’t fill a plane with that. But to LYGG, every customer is important. Even if you only have five return trips a month, we treat everyone equally and valued, and we’re happy to think along with you. Communication is short: you can always call or email us.”

The Netherlands as a new base

LYGG’s headquarters are in Helsinki, but there are plans for an office in the Netherlands, says Eelco: “We have a lot of contact with Den Helder and Groningen, so it makes sense to have an office there. We’ll start flights from the Netherlands in March next year. We’ll also station crews and aircraft at the new location, allowing us to respond quickly.”

Connecting in North Holland

LYGG joined AYOP through an old acquaintance: “We have an excellent partnership with Den Helder Airport – they signed us up,” says Eelco. “We see great value in the North Holland ecosystem and have noticed that there’s already a lot of interest in routes to, for example, Norwich and Esbjerg from the region. We want to connect users and customers who travel frequently between North Sea ports, thereby contributing to the development of North Holland. We’re eager to connect with parties who want to build on this with us.”
