Peterson Energy Logistics back in IJmuiden and ready to grow together

Peterson Energy Logistics has been back in IJmuiden since October 1st. With their new location on Monnickendamkade, they can serve clients in the port even better. Nick Poldervaart, Business Unit Manager in IJmuiden, talks about the return and Peterson’s plans for IJmuiden.

The perfect time to return

As many know, Peterson is no stranger to IJmuiden. A few years ago, they were located on Westerduinweg, together with their subsidiary Control Union, which also recently became an AYOP member. Nick explains: “At the time, partly due to COVID, offshore energy activities were declining, and we were forced to close our IJmuiden location and move it to our Den Helder location. Back then, the wind sector wasn’t as represented as it is now. In recent years, the offshore energy sector has boomed again. IJmuiden is a strategic hotspot for offshore wind activities, with large wind farms located off the coast. This requires a lot of service and maintenance, as well as many related logistics services. So, this is the perfect time for Peterson to return. Not only to have a local presence, but to make an even better contribution to the energy transition that is currently in full swing.”

The ‘One Peterson’ philosophy

Nick explains how the return came about: “We took over the IJmuiden operation from Ymond Offshore Logistics (YOL). This already established the foundation: we have a well-equipped office and three warehouses, enabling us to serve our customers effectively. We are continuing YOL’s activities, but under the umbrella of Peterson Energy Logistics. We are expanding our range of shipping agency and port logistics services to include offshore work, from planning to handling. We also handle storage, transport, customs support, and stevedoring activities.” This is a great addition to Peterson’s work in Den Helder, Nick explains: “In Den Helder, we have the port where ships arrive and quays where we provide all kinds of services. IJmuiden is more focused on offshore wind. Many of our clients, including those from the surrounding area, are based in IJmuiden or do business there. Den Helder and IJmuiden strengthen each other in that respect. We are a single entity and serve clients throughout the North Sea region in the same way. We call that the ‘One Peterson’ philosophy.”

Ready to grow together

According to Nick, there are ample expansion opportunities in IJmuiden for Peterson Energy Logistics: “With the acquisition of Ymond Offshore Logistics, we’ve also secured some excellent partnerships. Clients already purchase certain services from us, but there’s also significant expansion potential that we’re eager to discuss with them. By combining local strength with international experience, we can scale up and expand our services for these types of partners. We offer a full range of services from our own facilities, and we have all the expertise in-house. This creates opportunities, including for potential partnerships with large companies in the region.”

Peterson Energy Logistics is open to collaboration with all parties in the region, whether they’re companies in the port, offshore wind, oil & gas, transporters, or service providers. Nick: “We’re back in our local presence, we’re accessible, and we’re ready to grow together!”
