AYOP expands working area with Den Helder

Today during the Offshore Experience in Den Helder we celebrated that we are expanding our working area with Den Helder! Below you can find the press release.

AYOP, the network association for offshore energy in North Holland, is expanding its working area with Den Helder. This was celebrated during the Offshore Experience in Den Helder on 10 September 2024.

Three ports, one mission

The developments and Dutch ambitions in the field of offshore energy generation are enormous. Cooperation between the North Holland ports is therefore crucial, according to Kees Turnhout, director of Port of Den Helder: “The significant growth in the number of offshore wind farms off the coast of North Holland is a huge opportunity for the North Holland ports. No port can handle all that work on its own, so cooperation is the way forward. Together we are stronger.”

Where there used to be some mutual competition between the ports, cooperation has become increasingly intensive due to the developments of recent years. The ports present themselves jointly at trade fairs, consult on the use of space, and work together when establishing new companies (both nationally and internationally). The step to expand the working area of network association AYOP is therefore a logical one. “AYOP is a fantastic network of companies, (air)ports, governments, knowledge institutions and schools, in which we can join forces. As Port of Den Helder, we are happy to contribute to this,” says Kees Turnhout.

Better service of the offshore energy market

By joining forces, the network association can serve the market better, says Peter van de Meerakker, chairman of AYOP: “As an association of and for members, AYOP’s goal is to have as many activities and expenditures for offshore energy land in our network as possible. We are in a growing market, where it is ‘all hands on deck’ to serve our clients. Together with the companies, governments and knowledge institutions from Den Helder and the Kop van Noord-Holland, we can serve the market for the Hollandse Kust even better from the region.”

Good news for the economy and energy transition

The province of North Holland also welcomes cooperation and endorses the importance of joining forces. Esther Rommel, deputy of the province of North Holland for Spatial Development, Economy, Ports and Recreation, says: “The province wholeheartedly welcomes the cooperation. This is not only good news for the ports themselves, but also for the economy and energy transition, in our province and far beyond.”

An updated logo

From today, AYOP will use the name AYOP: Offshore Energy Association. This is reflected in an adapted logo. The subtitle contains the three cities of the working area in alphabetical order.

The members include companies, local and regional authorities and knowledge or educational institutions involved in the offshore energy sector.
