Online Business Call: opportunities and challenges of offshore green hydrogen

This time, an AYOP Business Call on the opportunities and challenges of offshore green hydrogen. You can’t open a news site anymore without seeing energy news. Energy has become a tool of power: whoever controls the energy decides who gets it and at what price. At the same time, we’re facing grid congestion, a lack of space, and rapidly rising costs.

This business call will be led by Patrice Hijsterborg and Rene van der Meer of Hydrogen of Dutch Origin (H2DO). They’ll show how offshore green hydrogen can be a missing link in the energy system. Through the OMG-H2 project, they’re exploring a 30–50 MW facility in the Hollandse Kust Noord (HKN) wind area in the North Sea. The goal is to produce green hydrogen directly at sea there by 2031 using wind energy and transport it to land via a pipeline. This will relieve pressure on the power grid, prevent curtailment, and strengthen the Netherlands’ energy self-sufficiency—with the aim of scaling up rapidly thereafter.

During this meeting, they will present their vision, plans, and the importance and impact of offshore green hydrogen production. They look forward to discussing the opportunities and challenges with the members.
